Berenice Abbott
Berenice was an american photographer who hailed from springfield, Ohio. She was born on july 17, 1898 and died on december 9, 1991 in Maine. Abbott studied very briefly at Ohio state university, then moved to new york and was an artist there, she was an artist in berlin for a time and then became an assistant to an artist in paris. After that she opened her own photography studio in paris where she took portraits. Her friend died and she spent some time reconstructing his photos to promote his work. then she went back to new york and was interested by the rapid urbanization and documented it, greatly inspired by her friend, she was known as the photographer of new york city. Through the 40s and 50s she taught photography and played around with her style of photography. She wrote about six books all on the subject of photography and lived in new york peacefully until she decided to move Maine for a quieter life.
