funny captions

An elderly man is bombarded by monkeys at the Washington D.C. Zoo on July 5, 2003, the zoo does not keep its monkeys in a cage so they are able to roam free while spectators look around, because he has a snack (not pictured) that the monkeys want. The man, Russell Sprouts, was enjoying a nice day at the zoo with his granddaughter, when it was time to see the monkeys russell pulled out a snickers to enjoy while viewing the "little buggers" and the monkeys took one look at it and decided it was feeding time, russell did not mind at all and him and the monkeys had a fabulous rest of their day.

This lovely older woman wears a t-shirt stating "i hate everyone" at a supermarket on a Wednesday to declare her hatred for everyone she printed her feelings on a yellow tee. Her name is Brenda and she was fed up with the vegetable department at her local whole foods for "not laughing at her lettuce be friends joke when it was obviously hilarious," Brenda has since been banned from that whole foods.

100 year old woman, Caspar Douglas, smokes her cigarette off of her birthday candles in Milwaukee,  Wisconsin because she cant find a lighter and wants a cigarette. This was actually Caspar's first cigarette, she has never smoked in her life which is how she came to be 100 years old and she was wondering what'll the fuss was about, Caspar did not enjoy the cigarette.

warm up

  1. while i was looking through these pictures i felt sad that this happened to her, and happy that he loved his wife so much.
  2. I think the comment is very true the pictures are of very sad events but those events shouldn't define who we are they should just be part of the story
  3. If i was in this situation i dint think i could do this, looking at my loved one like that i think i would want to remember them the way they were before they were in pain
  4. I would tell him I'm sorry about his wife and that he found a good way to immortalize her.

mural project preview

  1. For an at school mural we could take pictures of peoples outfits to see the different clothes people at bowie wear. And for an off campus project you could take pictures of peoples dogs and see what kind of dogs live in austin.
  2. I feel like real cameras would work better because they can take better pictures, but phone cameras would be so much easier. But over all we should use the real ones so that the pictures don't look different from each other.
  3. The murals can just hang in the halls so people would walk by see them everyday.

abandoned theme parks

  1. Out of all the amusement parks I would probably go to Okpo Land in South Korea because it is like its frozen in time. The park is literally the exact same as when the owner abandoned it, nothing has changed. So when you go there is like you're stepping into the nineties and I love the nineties so much. Also there is something really interesting about the story of it, with the girl who died and how the cart she was on is still in the exact same place. I would have to go in the day though because I don't play around with ghosts.
  2. abandoned sports arenas, abandoned campsites, abandoned schools, abandoned houses, abandoned museums
  3.  abandoned museum
  4.  I think it would be cool to shoot abandoned museums because you would get to see the history that people left behind. I've always liked history, I just think it would be interesting so to see the kinds of things that people thought weren't worth taking. The thing i think is interesting about about this whole looking at abandoned places thing is that you kinda get to go back in time so with the museums i think its cool to learn what these people thought was worth preserving at the time.

  • 6. If I were to go to South Korea a whole lot would have to be planned I would have to buy a plane ticket and book a hotel and also have money for food and all that stuff, but as far as camera equipment goes i would probably just use my phone because if I have to run from the police I am not bringing some big fancy camera, because I'm sure South Korea has laws against trespassing.

    1. These pictures were beautiful and he had so much patience while he was taking them. The photographer was very committed to his art, he waited for weeks just to get the right picture. And I think its very nice that he is using his photos as a way to spread awareness for the animals in Africa.
    2. Its a picture of two lionesses looking away from each other, i just really like how symmetrical it is  and its just a well balanced photo
    3. Photography rules evident in this photo are balance, shown by the two lions on both sides, and simplicity, the simple background really helps you focus on the subjects.
    4. Instead of using a telephoto lens he just gets as close to the animals as possible so he can also capture the landscape and the sky in the image.
    5. Nick finds these animals particularly mesmerizing so he wants to capture them in their natural state of being as opposed to them in action.
    6. He hopes these photos will help raise awareness for the animals he photographs so the will not be poached anymore .
    7. "There is also something deeply, emotionally stirring and affecting about the plains of Africa" -nick brandt

great black and white photographers part 3

I really like new york and I think Bernice just captured it really well. I think her pictures show a side of the city that most people don't think of, she shows the people inside the skyscrapers and outside on the streets. You think of new york as such a glamorous place filled with such glamorous people, but they're really just people, people who have the same problems and you and me. I feel like her pictures kind of humanize the city.

I see a building, a very, very tall building. And a lot of people trying to get to work. I see the yellow taxi cabs
I smell the steam coming up from the streets, and the smoke from all the cars. I smell all the different perfumes of the women walking
And I hear the taxi caps honking their horns at each other. I hear the thousands of different conversations all happening at once. And the doors of all the store fronts opening and closing.
I can taste hotdogs that the man is selling out of cart a couple feet away from me. And I taste the cigarette smoke that all the men blow around.
And I feel so small compared to the very, very tall building. Also the cold winter air against my red nose

I see a man who sleeps in the streets. He looks peaceful and doesn't seem to mind the hundreds of people passing by him. He's completely in his own little bubble.
I can smell the cigarettes that he smoked probably before he took his nap. And the cigarettes of the people passing by. Also the fresh bread being baked by the shop he's sleeping in front of
And I hear the store owner yelling at him to sleep somewhere other than "his curb." I hear the man snore a bit more to tell the store owner he's not going anywhere. And the door of the store slam behind him after he finally gives up.
I can taste the smokey air around us, and the bread being baked in that store
And I feel the concrete sidewalk under my feet. I feel sad for the man, but i don't do anything that would disturb his sleep.

I think if i was going the create something to show how she captures the city and its best and worst angles. I would probably make a collage or something to show the different ways it can be viewed
